Diversity isn’t just a woke catchphrase, it’s something that’s vital to every business. Sport is something that brings people together from every walk of life and your business should not be any different.
Your Board and Management Team should be a diverse group of people who bring different experiences and perspectives to the decision-making process. And there’s nothing wrong with robust debate – in fact, better decisions are made by boards and businesses with a wide variety of opinions.
Look at your business – do you have diversity in age, gender, cultural and linguistic background and geography among your staff? Is diversity a consideration when you’re looking at recruitment?
There’s no single formula for how a board or staff should look, but in this day and age, an business that’s predominantly white men is probably not progressive enough.
When you’re looking for staff, cast the net as widely as a sporting coach would – you want the best players, and often they come from some surprising places. Look beyond your own little corner of the world.
