Women’s sport has finally taken off in Australia, with more people than ever tuning in or turning up to watch women’s netball, soccer, rugby league, cricket and AFL.
When it comes to equality, tennis has been at the forefront of pay parity in sport. Legendary US player Billie Jean King helped lead the way, threatening to boycott the 1973 US Open unless men and women received equal pay cheques.
Last year, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reported that 12.1% of the nation’s 5.9 million employed women were their own boss, and more than a third of small businesses are headed by women.
Equality in the workplace is just as important as it is on the sporting field, and it’s vital respect for women is at the heart of your workplace.
“The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind and above all, be humble.” – Serena Williams
